Second International Lazarite Symposium (June 2014)
During the Second International Lazarite Symposium held in Nevis Island in June 2014, scores of medical doctors who are active members and officers of the Order and who regularly volunteer in our extensive Hospitaller work in South America and the Caribbean, conducted free medical screening to the inhabitants of Saint Kitts and Nevis Island. More than 200 households received free medical advice, check-ups and screenings during the period of the Symposium. This initiative was coordinated by the Grand Master of the Sacred Medical Order of the Knights of Hope, operating under the United Grand Priories and by the Grand Prior of the Grand Priory of Saint Kitts and Nevis Island. Other Grand Priors and Priors of the Order, including those of Jamaica, Ecuador, Gozo, Curacao and the Isle of Man assisted in the logistics of such an initiative.

The Conference was a great success, with eminent medical doctors and professors from around the world projecting the various medical initiatives which the Order is and can do in the near future, especially within our Grand Priories in distress. The historic juxtaposition of Monastic Medicine and the commitment of the Order to emulate its medieval predecessor in the 21st century was also a topic which created a healthy debate and ensured that the Order's various medical teams within its jurisdictions increase their medical and Hospitaller work in the months to come.
